THERE'S MORE TO SECURITY THAN JUST GUARD DOGS

A Tasco technician programs a client's system

Many of Tasco's clients come from urban areas to northern New England's rural setting. Their vacation home may be charming, with a name like the Silent Valley Sunrise Farm even though it hasn't seen a live chicken in years. yet, it also may be 30 minutes from the nearest police station. This can cause the homeowners to take advantage of every security and safety measure they can.

Says Breed, "Our high-end residential clients essentially say to us, and I'm paraphrasing, 'I'm going to pay you to protect me and my property. Protect me.' Because of this, we get paid top dollar to give our clients a tactical advantage in detecting and responding to an intruder, fire, or electrical/mechanical malfunction. These customers see the value in our systems. They're smart. They'll tell us that they'll spend $10,000 to protect their life and property. They do not want avoidable problems to interfere with their pursuits."

Once Tasco has all of this information, they assemble the tools to complete the job. Tasco uses NAPCO control panels exclusively, and on these high-end jobs, they use the 3200 or 9600 Gemini Signature panels.

"The reason I like these panels so much is that they have tremendous flexibility in programming," says Breed, adding "They're easily expandable off of a 4-wire BUS, and we can add in radio transceivers, X-10 control, relay outputs, voice responses and other features incrementally, where and when we need them."

he also likes that NAPCO structures its basic systems to be real straightforward. NAPCO panels are also Savoy-compatible, enabling a house to be completely auromated. Thermostats can be programmed, lights and the radio can go on when someone walks into the room, and other comfort and conveniences as well as security features can be programmed and added at a later date, incrementally.

In the high-end market, many times insurance companies will mandate that a security system be installed. "I have one client with $500,000 worth of antique duck decoys in his house. His insurance company isn't going to let him keep a collection like that without a well-thought-out and -implemented security system," says Breed.

"A lot of these clients like to be backed up by a cellular phone or proprietary radio network, in the event that their telephone lines are cut in a burglary," he continues. "We can also customize a system. We can identify panic buttons in the panel, and be able to turn lights on when doors open, for example. Doing our homework and working harder up front, we can anticipate the clients' later needs."
